Brief Overview

Ferrous Sulfate Monohydrate is classified as an organic compound used as a source of iron. Ferrous sulfate monohydrate is commonly used as a treatment to iron-deficiency in both humans and animals. Ferrous sulfate is fairly non-toxic. It has a role as a nutraceutical, an anti-anaemic agent and a reducing agent.

Manufacturing Process

Manufacturing process of ferrous sulfate monohydrate includes two major steps: 
1. First is reacting a source of iron with an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid in at least a first reaction vessel, to obtain a process liquor comprising ferrous sulphate and acid solution
2. Second is combining the process liquor with concentrated sulphuric acid in a mixing vessel, causing the solution to self crystallize, thus forming a slurry comprising crystalline ferrous sulfate monohydrate. The slurry can be converted to ferric sulphate.

Animal Feed Industry

Ferrous sulfate Monohydrate is widely used as Fe (iron) source in animal feed. It helps treating anemia and the symptoms of iron deficiency in animal. Iron has an important role in the formation of red blood cells in animals. It also transports oxygen through the haemoglobin and produced energy through electron transfer in the mitochondrial respiratory chain. Ferrous suplfate monohydrate is suitable for swine, poultry, bovines, and other animal species.
